Reception on the North Shore
Digital reception either works or it doesn't — there's no gentle degradation to snow like the analogue days. It pixelates, then it drops out entirely, usually during something you wanted to watch.
Around the North Shore the usual causes are straightforward: an antenna that's twenty years old and pointed at a transmitter it was aligned to before a repeater changed, corroded coax and connectors after a couple of decades of weather, terrain shadowing in the gullies around Lane Cove National Park or the sandstone escarpments near St Ives, or trees that have simply grown. Splitting one antenna feed across five outlets without an amplifier is another common one — every split halves the signal.
The fix is nearly always alignment, cabling or amplification rather than a bigger antenna, and it's worth diagnosing before buying hardware.

TV and antenna questions
Why does my TV pixelate on some channels only?
Different channels transmit at different frequencies and power. Marginal signal shows up on the weakest ones first, so partial pixelation is usually an early warning rather than a channel problem. Alignment or amplification generally fixes it.
Do I need a new antenna?
Often not. Alignment, corroded connectors or a bad split are more common causes than a failed antenna. We check signal at the outlet before recommending hardware.
Can you mount my TV and hide the cables?
Yes. Cables run inside the wall cavity, and we usually add a power point behind the TV at the same time so nothing hangs down. On double brick or a fireplace wall, we'll tell you what's actually possible before starting.
Can you mount a TV over a fireplace?
Physically yes, but consider the heat and the viewing angle — it's higher than ideal for a long session. If it's a gas or wood fireplace, we'll check the heat situation before mounting anything above it.
I have poor reception near St Ives. Is that normal?
Terrain shadowing is real close to the national park and in some of the gullies out that way. It usually means a different antenna type, a higher mount, or aiming at a different transmitter. It's solvable, but it's a proper diagnosis rather than a guess.
Do you do outdoor TV points for alfresco areas?
Yes, and it's a common North Shore request. The outlet needs weather protection and the power point needs to be outdoor-rated on an RCD — worth doing properly rather than running a lead out the window.
