Turramurra runs long and narrow either side of the Pacific Highway, and the character changes as you go. East of the highway it's the same Federation and inter-war stock you see through Wahroonga and Warrawee — big blocks, original switchboards, homes that have had two or three partial renovations without ever touching the wiring. Our block backs onto bushland near Ku-ring-gai Chase — does that change what you can install outside?
Yes. Properties on the bushfire-prone edge of North Turramurra need outdoor switchboards, sockets and light fittings rated to the property's bushfire attack level (BAL), not just standard weatherproof gear. We check the BAL rating before quoting any outdoor work on a boundary block.
Do we need three-phase power for an EV charger?
Only if you're stacking loads — a single EV charger runs fine on single phase with a decent board. Three-phase becomes the right call once you've also got a pool, ducted air and possibly a second car, which is the normal load profile on Turramurra's bigger blocks.
Should we rewire the whole house or just upgrade the switchboard?
We inspect the circuit wiring, not just the board, before recommending either. A board upgrade on its own is enough if the wiring's sound; if we find degraded cable in the roof we'll price a rewire alongside it and explain exactly why.
