Can you upgrade the wiring in our Federation home without touching the heritage features?
Almost always, yes. Heritage controls in Wahroonga's Conservation Area apply to the external fabric of the house — roofline, verandahs, street-facing materials — not to internal wiring or the switchboard. We can rewire or upgrade the inside of a Federation home in the normal way, and we'll flag it clearly if a particular job looks like it might need a heritage referral, which is rare.
Do we need to rewire the whole house, or just upgrade the switchboard?
Depends what we find. A switchboard upgrade alone is often enough if the circuit wiring itself is sound, and it's the cheaper path — $1,500–$3,500 for a straightforward board, more if there's asbestos backing behind it. If we find degraded rubber or VIR cable in the roof during the inspection, we'll show you and price a full or partial rewire alongside the board work, not instead of it.
Why does our safety switch keep tripping with nothing plugged in?
Usually a degrading circuit somewhere in the house — old insulation breaking down and leaking a small amount of current, often intermittently with heat or moisture. It's common in homes with original wiring. We isolate circuits one at a time to find the culprit rather than guessing, and it's included in a standard fault-finding callout.
Do we need three-phase power for an EV charger?
Not for a single 7kW home charger — that runs fine on single phase if the board has capacity. Three-phase mainly matters if you want faster charging, you're adding a second EV, or the property's total load (pool, ducted air, EV) is already pushing the single-phase supply to its limit, which is common on the bigger Wahroonga blocks.
